(2595) Composite surface of failure
A surface failure that is not circular in cross section but is composed of one or more arcs of a circle (with or without straights). Stability along the surface involves a considerable horizontal movement and hence cannot be investigated by the Swedish slip circle method that presupposes only rotational movement. The stability is worked out by considering the equilibrium of a horizontally moving mass under the action of external driving and resisting forces and frictional resistance afforded by the horizontal plane.
